Tow Line Shock Absorber

Two kayaks on a tow do not move together. One rides up a wave while the other drops off the back of it, the line goes slack, and then it comes tight with a jerk that both paddlers feel. North Water's Shock Absorber is the stretch section that takes that jerk out of the line. It is sold as an add-on, so you can upgrade a plain tow line without replacing it. The upgrade for the Micro Tow Line. North Water lists this shock absorber as one of the add-ons for the Micro Tow Line, which comes without one. Why a Tow Line Wants Some Stretch Tow rope is chosen to float and to be easy to see, and it has very little give. On flat water that does not matter. In waves, every time the line snaps tight the load lands on the person towing and on the boat being towed. A shock absorber stretches as the load comes on and eases back as it goes off. The pull arrives as a steady draw, which is easier on the paddler doing the towing and keeps the towed boat running straighter.
