She began her training as a teenager under the painter Willem van Aelst, a renowned master of still life, and quickly developed a personal style characterized by asymmetrical compositions, subtle lighting, and botanical rendering of almost scientific precision. Her career was remarkable for the time: she became a member of the Hague Painters’ Guild, gained international recognition, and was even appointed court painter to Elector Palatine John William in Düsseldorf. Married to the portrait painter Juriaen Pool and the mother of ten children, she nevertheless continued to paint actively into old age, producing works well into the 1740s. She died in 1750 after a career spanning more than six decades, leaving behind a body of work admired for its technical refinement and exceptional creative longevity.
