Caracola Shell Shard Convertible Necklace

Caracola is a 48-inch strand of irregular natural shell shards — flat, drilled in different ways so each one catches the light at its own angle, some with jagged edges, in dark chocolate, caramel, iridescent white, and deep smoky brown. Between the shells run gold-plated hematite beads and a hidden scatter of tiny speckled beads: specks of blue agate, yellow turquoise, off-white and brown. An 18k gold-plated toggle clasp with the JAREDJAMIN tag finishes the strand, which is hand-knotted throughout. Wear it long, double it, triple it, or wear it open in front like a lariat — at 48 inches it was designed to be restyled endlessly. A lot of my gemstone necklaces are built like a print in a strand — never one flat color, because three colors (or more) means it works with everything. Here the shells give you the browns, the dark chocolates, the caramel, the white iridescence; the gold gives the sparkle; and hidden in between are the tiny speckled beads — specks of blue, yellow, off-white. It's intricate but simple at the same time. And the silhouette does the rest.
