Some forms ask us to soften our edges, translate ourselves, become more legible to the environments we move through. And sometimes that is necessary. But there is another kind entirely. One that does not come from performance, but from contact with something real. Something that shapes you in return. The iguana does not negotiate with the heat. It simply exists within it, without apology. In Mayan belief, the sun was not a comfort. It was a force that required a right relationship. Survival was not about avoiding its intensity or negotiating it into something more manageable. It was about learning how to exist within it. This painting holds that distinction. Between adapting to be received and being shaped by what actually sustains you. Between adjusting to belong and returning to what you already are. Some adaptations disconnect us from ourselves.
