Crochet Skills Series: Stitches for Making Blankets ~ June 20th, July 11th, and August 8th ~ 10am

Instructor: Derek Reynolds Crochet Technique of the Month Join us for one class or all! In this class series, you will use your basic/intermediate crochet skills to learn new techniques and stitches to make blankets to gift or use! In each class we will practice a technique and work together on that technique for a bit and discuss how you can use it for different projects. Skills you should already have: You need to have a basic understanding of crochet and the following stitches – chain, Slip Stitch, SC, HDC, DC, Treble Crochet. Materials: For this class you’ll need to bring your crochet hooks and bring or purchase some yarn! June 20th from 10am to 2pm: Corner-to-corner crochet (c2c) and graphgans (4 hrs) Learn to do a fun and easy pattern that you can use to make blankets and other projects quickly and easily. Corner to corner crochet builds up fast and you can make baby blankets, throws and full bedspreads from any weight of yarn. You can use this same technique with patterns and colored yarns to make beautiful designs. We will do a heart pattern. July 11th from 10am to 2pm: Bavarian Crochet and Catherine’s Wheel (4 hours) In this session you’ll learn to make the two beautiful patterns that look like wheels! Bavarian crochet is a fun and repetitive growing pattern that once started you can do in many colors or in a variegated yarn and the texture will give an extra effect to your work! Catherine’s wheel is a stitch that gives great circular effects with yarn. Both look amazing as throws and blankets – or shawls! August 8th from 10am to 1pm: Granny Squares and Join as you go (Jaygo) crochet (3hours) In this session we will learn to read patterns for granny squares (and hexagons, etc!) and make a simple one color granny square, a multi-colored granny square, a flower granny square, a one color hexagon, and learn the join-as-you-go technique you can use to make blankets without seaming a bunch of squares together after making them! You can also make granny squares as BIG as you want, even repeating the pattern to make one giant granny blanket with one square! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Illness protocol: Please do not attend class if you are not feeling well or have been exposed to COVID or another virus.
