Still today and despite all, a unique place where the spirit of the inhabitants defeats the cement, the frenzy of success at any cost and the fear of the uncertain tomorrow. Yangon is the stage on which lives keep flowing. Often a poor life, burdened by hardship and preoccupations. The Almanac is my tribute to the sweet and determined resilience of the Burmese, to their effort to continue living a normal life despite all the obstacles and to maintain their extraordinary humanity. Il Lunario raccoglie piccoli sprazzi della grande storia collettiva che rende ancora oggi a nonostante tutto Yangon un posto unico, dove lo spirito degli abitanti sovrasta ancora il cemento, la frenesia del successo ad ogni costo o la paura del domani incerto. Yangon è il palcoscenico su quale la vita continua a scorrere. Una vita spesso grama, appesantita degli affanni e dalle costanti preoccupazioni. Il Lunario costituisce il mio tributo alla resilienza dolce e determinata dei birmani, al loro sforzo di continuare a vivere una vita normale nonostante tutti gli ostacoli e a preservare la loro straordinaria umanità. Yet, few short travels opened small windows on the infinite beauty of this country. At Inle, I have been overwhelmed by the interior calm exerted as an enhancement by the lake. And I felt under the spell of markets, hosting the Pa–O women. In Mandalay, I have relived pages of history of the Konbaung Dynasty. In Bagan, I have visited temples and pagodas narrating the infinite devotion of ancient kings. On the coast of Ayeyarwady, I have witnessed the primordial symbiosis of the fishermen and the sea. I giorni ed i mesi del mio lunario birmana scorrono a Yangon, con l‘eco piu, o meno distante delle notizie che giungono dal resto del Paese. Qualche breve viaggio mi ha permesso di affacciarmi per poco sulla bellezza sconfinata di questa Nazione. A Inle, mi sono estasiato della calma interiore che il lago esercita come un incantesimo e sono caduto sotto il fascino dei mercati popolati dalle donne Pa–O. A Mandalay ho rivissuto pagine della storia della dinastia Konbaung. A Bagan ho visitato templi e pagode che raccontano l‘infinita devozione di antichi re. Sulla costa dell‘Ayeyarwady, ho assistito all’antica simbiosi dei pescatori e del mare.
