Baron de Badassière Carignan (France)
One of the most underrated red grapes! This Carignan hails from the gorgeous Languedoc, a historic coastal region in the south of France. This wine is light and luscious, with herbaceous hints of savoury cherry, raspberry and blackberry. Elegant, really refreshing and a great price to boot! This Carignan was grown in vineyards around the village of Badassière, the same region where Picpoul de Pinet is made! Here, the dry, sunny climate encourages ripe red and black fruit flavours. This wine owes its name to a colourful character who owned vineyards in Badassière in the eighteenth century, the local Baron Charles Emmanuel, who was rumoured to be the illegitimate son of King Louis XV! We also like to refer to these wines as the ‘badass’ wines, but that’s just us. Pair this with richer vegetable dishes, roasted lamb, or beef stew. Vintages may vary.
