New! God the Father – by Cima da Conegliano – Holy Card - Pack of 10/100/1000

We really had to stop and do a double-take when we first saw this cool picture because we had never seen a picture of God the Father by himself before. All the time He's portrayed as an old, bearded man in the clouds, but usually with a dove and a picture of Jesus, never alone.God the Father was the picture the Holy Spirit brought me when we were looking for a picture to go with the Sarum prayer. We came across the Sarum prayer first and loved it and wanted to make a card with it. Usually it's artwork first for us, but not this time. The prayer comes from the Sarum Book of the Hours. The prayer is similar to Patrick's breastplate. New to us, but originally from 1514, with earlier versions dating further back. The painting was done at the same time, give or take a couple of years. Cima da Conegliano (c. 1459 – c. 1517), was one of the great masters of painting during the Renaissance. Italian, mostly working in Venice, he painted mostly calm, religious scenes. His real name was Giovanni Battista Cima, and you know you've made it in the art world when history remembers you by your nickname. Conegliano was where he was born. He did this painting in 1515.
