Ethiopia Habtamu's Chelbesa
ETHIOPIA HABTAMU'S CHELBESA PEACH JAM, KEY LIME, WHITE FLOWERS Habtamu's other separation from Chelbesa Station. Tasting remarkable and vivid with stone fruity sweetness and lovely citic zip. Floral and light bodied, just what we need in the heat of the summer. Banger! BEAN DETAILS: ORIGIN: Gedeb Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia ELEVATION: 1900-2200 masl VARIETY: Heirlooms PROCESS: Once cherries arrive at the station, they are placed in water for sorting and removing floaters. For the washed lot, cherries are then depulped, dry-fermented for 96 hours, and washed to remove the mucilage. The parchment is then laid out to dry on raised beds for 12-14 days. TASTING NOTES: peach jam, key lime, white flowers ROAST TYPE: Light Farm Level Habtamu Fekadu Aga grew up surrounded by coffee. His grandfather, Aaga Dinsa, farmed coffee in the Kuri kebele of western Ethiopia, and the land he passed down became the foundation for what is now Kuri Mountain Coffee. Since founding the company in 2015, Habtamu has expanded well beyond his family's original farm. Today, Kuri Mountain Coffee cultivates its own coffee while partnering with 144 registered smallholder producers across Ethiopia, processing cherries at washing stations throughout Guji, Yirgacheffe, Jimma, and Wollega. This coffee comes from the Chelbesa washing station in Gedeb, Yirgacheffe, one of two exceptional washed lots we'll be releasing from Habtamu this season. Beyond producing remarkable coffees, Habtamu has built his company around long-term investment in the communities where coffee is grown. Through its Fair for Life certification, Kuri Mountain Coffee contributes both a premium on every pound exported and a portion of annual profits toward local projects supporting education, healthcare, infrastructure, and food security. We're thrilled to share this coffee through our friends at Crop to Cup, who continue to source some of Ethiopia's most exciting coffees. The result is a cup that reflects everything we love about the country's highest elevations: incredible florals, vibrant fruit, and sparkling clarity.
