Masdevallia (Angel Frost × caudata 'Cameo' HCC/AOC) 'Sunburst'
This cross pairs Masd. Angel Frost — a primary hybrid of Masd. veitchiana × Masd. strobelii, registered by J&L Orchids in 1982 — with the awarded species clone Masd. caudata 'Cameo' HCC/AOC (2 awards, 1996). It is an unregistered cross, not a named grex. What to expect Flowers: Classic Masdevallia "kite" form — three fused sepals forming a triangular, heart-shaped flower. Ground colour is orange-yellow, heavily overlaid with red-orange veining and speckling concentrated toward the centre. Three slender tails extend from the sepal tips — a long dorsal tail standing upright above the flower, and two lower lateral tails sweeping down and out. The lip is small and dark maroon, tucked at the throat. Habit: One flower per stem, held on a slender, erect stem above strap-like foliage. Growing notes Temperature: Cool to cold growing. Angel Frost's parents originate from high-altitude Ecuadorian/Peruvian cloud forest; caudata comes from cooler Colombian/Venezuelan cloud forest at 1,800–3,300 m — treat as cool-growing throughout. Light: Bright filtered shade, no direct midday sun. Water: Keep evenly moist at all times — no pseudobulbs, do not allow to dry out. Humidity & air: High humidity with constant gentle air movement. Rainwater or RO water preferred. Shipping & condition Supplied as an established division. Buds and flowers cannot be guaranteed at time of shipping due to seasonal and environmental factors.
