La Rioja Alta S.A., "Viña Alberdi" Selección Especial, Rioja Reserva, 2021
Juicy, plush and weighty - A Rioja Reserva that offers a lot! "As my old MW tutor would have said, 'This can only be Rioja', with swathes of American oak dominating the nose and palate. But for lovers of this style, this is a Rioja Reserva that offers a lot. Floral red-berry fruits, crisp acidity and fine tannins – juicy, plush and weighty reflecting the quality of the 2021 vintage. No hurry to drink this." -Jancis Robinson 100% Tempranillo Aged 2 years in American oak barrels Jancis Robinson | 17/20 Pts Tim Atkin 93/100 Pts Cellaring: Drink now to 2032 Food Pairing: Roast lamb chops with rosemary and garlic, grilled ribeye steak, jamón Ibérico, slow-cooked pork tenderloin, roasted duck breast, medium-hard cheeses (Manchego, Comté, Roncal, Idiazábal) & cured meats. | 🌡️ The wine should be served at around 16°C–18°C STORY BEHIND THE LABEL La Rioja Alta is one of the great names of Rioja, with over 125 years history in winemaking. Vina Alberdi was a wine brand created in 1974 to replace the old "Tercer Ano" , named after Nicolás Alberdi who was president of La Rioja from 1947 -1952. La Rioja Alta is also one of the best names to look out for in terms of value, striking an ideal balance between price point and critical acclaim. The 2021 vintage is one of Rioja's great vintages, which has allowed the winery to award, for the second time in Viña Alberdi's history, the internal designation of Special Selection.
