Region: Japan Distillery: Yamaga Size: 375ml Cask: Bourbon Barrels ABV: 58% Yamaga New Born 2022 is a first release new-make whisky from Yamaga Distillery in Kumamoto, Japan, created to mark the distillery’s first anniversary. Located in northern Kumamoto Prefecture, the distillery makes use of high-quality groundwater and the basin’s hot, humid climate, with the whisky blended from spirits aged in bourbon barrels. Released on 1 December 2022, it was bottled at 58% ABV in a 375ml format, with 3,421 bottles produced. As a young new-born spirit rather than a fully matured single malt, it showcases distillery character and early promise more than age-driven complexity. It is a blend of seven selected casks matured for around 7 months in bourbon barrels. Whiskybase rate at around 86 points. Tasting notes from distillery: Aromas of green apple and osmanthus, along with roasted nuts and elegant malt flavors, create a delicate yet robust body. Aroma: Butterscotch, milk caramel, apple pie, blackcurrant, mint. Flavors: Silky, osmanthus, sponge cake, cashews, lemon cake, camphor, meringue, mitarashi (sweet soy sauce glaze)
