The Lord The Therapist
Clients include the Prophets and Job Have you ever considered the Lord as a therapist? An effective therapist listens well, earns your trust, validates your emotions, and helps you process life's challenges towards healing and growth. In today's world, emotions seem to be at the center of a mental health crisis, where the need for counselors and therapists has grown exponentially. But what about the Old Testament world, which was an agricultural society and had a simpler life? The Israelities were living amongst other cultures that didn't respect the Lord or his decrees for Israel. Those cultures slowly cause the Israelites to drift in their devotion and love for the Lord. As the prophets were given the task of helping God's people view their lives through spiritual eyes, did they experience the same emotional challenges we face? Elijah battled depression and suicidal thoughts. The prophet Jonah and Job were angry and confused because the perceived that God wasn't being just or that he allowed an injustice to occur or continue without intervening. Sounds a lot like us! This book describes how the Lord engaged with the prophets and job to address and help them manage their emotions, which included depression, anxiety, loss, and anger. As the Apostle Paul wrote, "For everything was was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope." (Romans 15:4) About the author: Lee Boger grew up in the Midwest, became a Christian in 1982, married Kathy in 1989, and between 2015-2024 served as an elder in his church.
