An authentic Bothremydidae side-necked turtle specimen preserving the skull and original carapace in exceptional anatomical association. Measuring 44 cm in total length, this fossil represents an uncommon example of a prehistoric reptile retained with significant original structure and geological context. The preserved skull displays the distinctive paired nasal openings characteristic of the genus Bothremys, providing a defining anatomical feature of these extinct side-necked turtles. This specimen has undergone more than 400 hours of specialist preparation and conservation. Using careful preparation techniques, surrounding matrix has been selectively removed to reveal the anatomical detail of the fossil while retaining original matrix along the underside margins and surrounding areas. This considered approach preserves the natural geological context of the specimen while highlighting the exceptional preservation of the skull and carapace. Particular attention has been given to maintaining the original connection between the skull and shell, preserving the fossil as it was naturally positioned during fossilisation. The specimen has been stabilised and conserved to ensure long-term integrity while respecting the character, authenticity, and geological history of the original material.
