Haunted Hearts: Ghosts, Secrets & Love That Won’t Stay Buried What haunts a love story? Sometimes it is a literal ghost or cursed house. Sometimes it is an old heartbreak, a dangerous secret, an unbreakable magical bond, or the morally gray man who refuses to let the heroine go. Five Southern California romance authors will discuss how they use longing, fear, humor, danger, regret, obsession, and the supernatural to create love stories that stay with readers long after the final page. The panel would span romantic comedy, contemporary romance, mature romance, romantasy, Gothic romance, and dark romance, making the event accessible to readers with a wide range of tastes. Attendees do not need to be familiar with the authors’ books beforehand. Participating authors and featured books Victoria Lum writes angsty contemporary and dark romance. Her recent release, Guarded in Darkness, follows a masked assassin who becomes dangerously protective of the ER nurse he is assigned to guard. Jessika Grewe Glover writes Gothic romance, fantasy, horror, and atmospheric fiction. Her recent release, Bromeliad House, features a sentient Florida estate, ghosts, second sight, family secrets, and a romance with someone who may already be marked for death. Roxie Noir writes high-heat contemporary romance and romantic comedy. Her recent release, Room Serviced, combines a famously haunted hotel, amateur ghost hunting, skepticism, flirtation, and the complication of a supposedly casual affair that refuses to stay in the past. Cee Yang, who also writes fantasy romance as C.L. Lor, brings both contemporary and speculative romance to the panel. A Burning Oath follows a human woman and a disgraced unicorn magically bound together by an oath that neither fully understands. Stefanie Castro writes emotional contemporary romance featuring mature characters, established lives, family, second chances, and love after loss. Embers in Our Souls is a marriage-of-convenience romance about two longtime friends confronting a relationship and heartbreak they never fully laid to rest.
