Original WW1 British No.101 Mark II Percussion Artillery Fuze A very good original First World War British No.101 Mk II percussion/graze artillery fuze, dating from 1917. Introduced during 1916, the No.101 was developed as an improvement upon the earlier No.100 fuze and became an important British percussion fuze for high-explosive artillery shells during the First World War. The design incorporated a fixed striker and graze-operated internal mechanism and could be used with a number of British artillery projectiles. This example has an impressive quantity of surviving original markings, including: No.101 II E.A.C. 8/11 9/17 LOT markings British Broad Arrow acceptance mark Various wartime inspection and manufacturing stamps The fuze is manufactured principally from brass and retains its distinctive grooved body and threaded lower section. The drilled openings clearly demonstrate its deactivated condition. Condition is very good for an original WWI artillery component. There are expected scratches, knocks and service marks, with some distortion around the lower edge and wear to the threads. Importantly, the principal identification and inspection markings remain extremely clear. A substantial and attractive piece of original British Great War artillery ordnance, ideal for an artillery, Western Front or general WWI collection. Completely inert and for historical collection/display purposes only.
