Oxyopes globifer - Mediterranean lynx spider

Oxyopes globifer is a small Mediterranean lynx spider (family Oxyopidae) inhabiting warm, dry environments on low plants and rocks. Females measure about 4.7 to 9.0 mm and males 3.7 to 5.2 mm. As active cursorial hunters, they do not build webs but rely on keen eyesight, long spiky leg bristles, and rapid jumping agility to stalk and pounce on insect prey. Behavior & Hunting Foraging Strategy: Functions as a diurnal roving hunter rather than a web-spinner. It uses sharp vision to spot potential prey from short distances. Capturing Technique: Stalks its target along vegetation or rocks before executing a swift, powerful leap or pounce. Its heavily spined legs form a functional "capture basket" to secure struggling insects. Mobility: Moves with rapid, jerky bursts and fixes a silken dragline as it navigates from leaf to branch, much like jumping spiders.
