MiriMay Mug Mottled Brown Glaze

Porcelain mug finished with a mottled brown glaze that varies slightly in depth and tone. Each mug will have its own mix of lighter and darker areas making every piece one-of-a-kind. Each pattern is slightly different and unique due to being carved by hand. A simple strong shape designed for everyday use. It was originally designed as a textile pattern for Pania’s label. These are handmade by Sarah Wigley in her Te Whanganui-a-Tara studio. The Miri May collection is a mihi to my Nan (Miri) and Grandma (Ida May). Industrious creative women, Māori and Scottish. This pattern combines elements of poutama and tartan traveling across and upwards. The passing and acquiring of knowledge through life and across generations and retold through our own stories. The crosses that link the poutama pattern represent Scottish tartan. Mugs are handmade and each uniquely different. Photos aim to show all glaze and design.
