The Doorway Between
A doorway once meant passage — an entrance into a place, a home, a tomb, a memory. Here, in Palmyra, it becomes something else: a threshold between an ancient world and the violence that entered it. Behind the damaged walls, centuries of history remain. Beyond the doorway, sandbags and the traces of conflict have replaced the ordinary passage of time. The light is still there. The sky is still there. But the world between them has changed. At the threshold, history does not disappear. It bears the marks of those who tried to erase it. Yet, beneath the destruction, hidden histories endure: another tomb was revealed under the blasted stone, reminding us that memory shines through attempts to bury it.
