Bokhara rugs are a very traditional design and were originally woven by Turkmen tribes around the Bokhara area in Uzbekistan, including Tekke, Salor, and Ersari tribes. Many other rugs were influenced by the Bokhara design due to the central location of Bokhara in the Silk road route. The octagonal medallion motif is a characteristic of Bokhara rugs and closely resemble the motif of Tekke rugs. The repeated motifs are in orderly rows, sometimes offset to create a flowing pattern, with multiple narrow borders, often with geometric meandering vine motifs. These rugs often have a silky appearance with a soft plush pile, due to the fine wool used which is achieved by extra spinning of the wool before weaving.
