It's a large hair-on hide roll made from the same single-ingredient whole beef hide we've always used, but hand-selected from the thickest, densest sections and rolled heavier than anything else in our lineup. More material. Tighter roll. Dramatically more chew. This is the longest-lasting chew Ugly Chews makes, and it isn't close. Our standard Large gives a typical dog 2 to 6 hours of active chewing. Ugly Select gives [X] hours, and that's on a power chewer, not an average one. What's actually in it Whole beef hide. Hair rolled to the inside. Nothing else. No bleach. No lime. No salt brine. No additives, binders, flavorings, or chemical baths. It's washed with water and dried for three or more days in UV light, the same way we've done it since day one. The hides come from small family ranches in Wyoming, Utah, and Idaho, picked up fresh daily from ranchers and butchers we know by name. Every Ugly Select is hand-cut and hand-rolled, one at a time, in Bear River, Wyoming. Why thickness is the whole story A chew doesn't last because of how long it is. It lasts because of how dense it is. A power chewer doesn't nibble their way down a chew. They find an edge, get their molars on it, and shear. Thin material gives up fast no matter how many inches you put in front of them. Thick, tightly rolled hide doesn't have an easy edge to attack. Your dog has to actually grind through it, which is exactly the slow, steady chewing that scrapes plaque off teeth and settles an anxious dog down. That's why we cut Ugly Select from the heaviest sections of the hide instead of just making it longer. Who it's for Dogs 40 lbs and up, and honestly it's built with the 60 lb and up crowd in mind. Power chewers, heavy chewers, and aggressive chewers who go through bully sticks, antlers, and standard hide rolls in minutes. Working and sporting breeds. Anyone with a shepherd, pit, lab, Malinois, cane corso, rottie, or husky who has never once been impressed by a chew. Not for puppies, seniors, or small dogs. Only a small fraction of each hide is thick enough to become Ugly Select. We can't make more by running longer. We're limited by what the ranches bring us and how much of each hide meets the standard. The honest comparison isn't per chew, it's per week. If your dog goes through a $10 chew in ten minutes, you're buying chews constantly and none of them are doing the job. One Ugly Select replaces a pile of them and actually keeps your dog occupied, which is the whole thing you were trying to buy in the first place. Sometimes nature's a little ugly Every hide is different. Thickness, color, hair pattern, and shape vary depending on where on the animal the piece came from. Yours won't look exactly like the photo, and it won't look exactly like the last one you ordered. That's not a defect. That's what an actual single-ingredient product from an actual ranch looks like. The uneven edges are the proof. Why it's limited We won't stretch the standard to make more. We cut a small batch each month, and when it's gone, it's gone until the next drop. Feeding and safety Give your dog Ugly Select in 15 to 20 minute supervised sessions, then put it away. Hide re-hardens as it dries between sessions, so spacing it out stretches the value and makes each session tougher. Always supervise chew time. Make sure the chew is the right size for your dog. Anything that fits fully in their mouth is a choking risk. Discard the final end pieces before they're small enough to swallow whole. Hair-on chews can support digestion and dental health in moderation, but we don't recommend them every single day. Always keep fresh water available.
