You Ji VTH Hydrostatic Series
You Ji VTH Series Hydrostatic CNC Vertical Turning Centres Ultra-Heavy-Duty Vertical Turning for the World’s Largest Components The You Ji VTH Series is a range of ultra-heavy-duty CNC vertical turning centres designed for machining exceptionally large, heavy and demanding components. Available with table diameters from 3,000 mm to 8,000 mm, the VTH Series combines massive machine construction with a full hydrostatic table bearing system, providing exceptional load capacity, vibration damping and stability during heavy-duty machining. At the top of the range, the VTH8000 can accommodate workpieces weighing up to 300 tonnes, making the VTH Series ideally suited to large components used throughout the energy, defence, power generation, marine and heavy engineering industries. Hydrostatic Table Technology At the heart of the You Ji VTH Series is its hydrostatic worktable. Unlike conventional roller-bearing arrangements, the table is supported on a pressurised oil film. You Ji combines hydrostatic and oil-film bearing technology to provide high axial load capacity together with excellent radial stability. The hydrostatic system provides: Exceptional vibration absorption High table rigidity Extremely high workpiece load capacity Reduced friction within the table bearing Excellent stability during interrupted and heavy cutting High torque and power availability at low table speeds Improved surface finish capability The hydrostatic bearing arrangement is particularly beneficial when machining extremely large components where workpiece weight, cutting forces and vibration can compromise the performance of a conventional vertical turning lathe. Built for Extreme Loads The VTH is constructed around a massive Meehanite cast iron, symmetrical box-type structure, developed using Finite Element Analysis (FEA). Heavy ribbing and multi-ribbed castings minimise thermal deformation while providing the rigidity required for demanding heavy-duty machining. The worktable itself is up to 250 mm thick, providing the structural support necessary for extremely large workpieces. X and Z axes utilise hardened and precision-ground box guideways with Turcite-B coated mating surfaces. Automatic central lubrication controls both lubrication volume and timing to maintain accuracy and extend machine life. Timelapse of 6m VTH Installation From 3 Metres to 8 Metres The VTH Series covers an exceptionally wide machining envelope, with models including: Model Table Diameter Maximum Swing Maximum Turning Diameter Maximum Workpiece Weight VTH3000 Ø3,000 mm Ø3,400 mm Ø3,300 mm 45 tonnes VTH3500 Ø3,500 mm Ø4,100 mm Ø3,800 mm 45 tonnes VTH4000 Ø4,000 mm Ø4,600 mm Ø4,300 mm 60 tonnes VTH4500 Ø4,500 mm Ø5,100 mm Ø4,800 mm 60 tonnes VTH5000 Ø5,000 mm Large-capacity configuration Large-capacity configuration Heavy-duty configuration VTH6000 Ø6,000 mm Large-capacity configuration Large-capacity configuration Heavy-duty configuration VTH7000 Ø7,000 mm Ultra-large configuration Ultra-large configuration Heavy-duty configuration VTH8000 Ø8,000 mm Ultra-large configuration Ultra-large configuration Up to 300 tonnes Specifications vary according to machine configuration, RAM arrangement, cross-rail height and options. ATC and ATC+C Turn-Mill Configurations The VTH can be configured as considerably more than a conventional vertical turning lathe. ATC models incorporate automatic tool changing, while ATC+C machines add CS-axis functionality and driven tooling to create a powerful large-capacity turn-mill machining platform. Available configurations include: ATC – Automatic Tool Changer ATC+C – Automatic Tool Changer with CS-axis functionality 2R – Twin RAM configuration Increased column/cross-rail height configurations for taller components This modular approach enables a VTH to be configured around the component and machining process rather than forcing the application into a standard machine envelope. Powerful Turn-Mill Capability ATC+C versions of the VTH Series offer driven-tool machining for completing complex components in fewer setups. Available machining processes include: Heavy-duty vertical turning Face milling End milling Drilling Boring Tapping 90° milling Complex turn-mill machining The driven spindle uses a high-performance Siemens spindle motor combined with a two-speed gearbox, providing both high rotational speed and high torque for demanding milling operations. Depending upon machine size, the brochure specifies Siemens live spindle motors with rated outputs of 11 kW or 22 kW, specifically designed to provide the torque characteristics required for milling, boring and drilling large components. High-Torque CS-Axis Machining For applications requiring angular positioning and interpolation, the VTH can be equipped with a CS-axis. A special dual-drive table system provides high output torque while eliminating mechanical transmission backlash. You Ji specifies: CS-axis indexing repeatability: 5 arc-seconds CS-axis positioning accuracy: 10 arc-seconds This enables large components to undergo turning and secondary machining operations on a single machine, reducing component handling and the requirement for additional machining operations. Single or Twin RAM Configurations For increased productivity and flexibility, the VTH Series is available in single-RAM and twin-RAM (2R) configurations. Twin-RAM machines provide two independently positioned machining units, creating opportunities for more productive machining strategies on very large components. The extensive range of RAM and tooling configurations allows TDT and You Ji to engineer the machine around the required component envelope and machining process. Automatic Tool Changing Standard ATC machines are equipped with a 16-position disc-type tool magazine, providing rapid bilateral tool selection. For applications requiring a greater number of tools, chain-type magazines are available with: 32 tools 48 tools 60 tools This makes the VTH particularly suitable for complex components requiring multiple turning, boring, drilling and milling operations within a single setup. Siemens SINUMERIK CNC The standard machine specification includes the Siemens SINUMERIK ONE CNC control, providing sophisticated functionality for both turning and milling applications. Features include: Turn-mill programming Milling cycles Turning cycles ShopMill / ShopTurn programGUIDE graphical cycle support 3D machining simulation Multi-channel programming support Tool management Workpiece and tool measuring cycles Automatic tool and work-offset correction Process measurement logging Remote diagnostic capability SINUMERIK’s measuring cycles can automatically incorporate measured geometric deviations into tool wear values and record measurement results for subsequent quality monitoring. Alternative FANUC 0i-TF and FANUC 31i controls are also listed as available options. Large Component Machining The You Ji VTH Hydrostatic Series is particularly suited to sectors where component size, weight and machining complexity exceed the capabilities of conventional vertical turning machines. Typical applications include: Large bearing rings Wind turbine components Power generation components Nuclear industry components Marine and shipbuilding components Large valves and pressure-containing components Oil & gas components Defence components Large gear blanks Large flanges Heavy engineering components Large fabricated and cast components For large bearing manufacture in particular, You Ji highlights the vibration damping characteristics of the hydrostatic table for hard turning applications, with the potential to achieve surface finishes approaching those associated with grinding.
