Biography Okada Shurei (1876-1941) Born in Kojimachi, Tokyo. Japanese-style painter and art educator active during the Meiji and Taisho periods. His real name was Shu. He graduated from the Department of Japanese Painting at Tokyo Fine Arts School in 1897. He was repeatedly selected for exhibitions such as the Museikai Exhibition and the Joint Painting Exhibition of the Japan Art Association and the Japan Art Institute. As a museum associate, he also engaged in copying classical paintings in Nara. After teaching at private middle schools and Tokyo Women's Higher Normal School, he became a professor at Tokyo Fine Arts School in 1901 and served until 1920. He also participated in the editing and production of art textbooks, contributing greatly to the development of art education.
