Three tools for a flat seam, in one box: a 100% wool pressing mat, a stainless steel seam roller and a pair of beechwood tailor's clappers. The roller opens and flattens seams at the machine, the mat presses them from both sides at the ironing station, and the clappers set them so they stay flat after they cool. How the three work together At the machine, the seam roller. Run it along a seam the moment you stitch it to open it or push it to one side. The stainless steel head applies even pressure, so you can keep piecing without getting up for the iron after every seam. At the ironing station, the wool mat. Pure wool holds heat. When you press down with your iron, the mat sends that heat back up from underneath, so the seam is pressed from both sides in one pass. The dense wool grips the fabric, so the block stays where you put it. Right after the steam, the clapper. Press the clapper down firmly on the warm, damp seam and hold it for a few seconds. The beechwood draws the heat and moisture out of the fabric and sets the seam as it cools. It helps most on bulky intersections and thick binding. What's in the box 1 wool pressing mat, 100% wool, 17" x 13.5" 1 seam roller with a 304 stainless steel head and a solid wood handle, 4.72" long 2 tailor's clappers in solid beechwood, one 6" and one 9", with engraved ruler markings and a velvet storage pouch Good to know 100% wool has a faint sheepy scent the first few times you heat it. It airs out, and it doesn't transfer to your fabric. Use the mat on a sturdy, heat-safe surface, not directly on a cutting mat or bare wood, because heat and moisture can mark them. A clapper works with your iron, not instead of it: it needs fabric that is still warm and damp from the steam. Features & Benefits Stainless steel seam roller so that you can flatten seams at the machine and make fewer trips to the iron. Smooth internal bearing and curved wood handle so that the roller glides cleanly and stays comfortable through long piecing sessions. 100% wool pressing mat so that seams are pressed from the top and from underneath in a single pass. Dense wool surface so that your block stays in place instead of stretching or sliding. Solid beechwood clappers so that the seam is set as it cools and lies flat and crisp. Two clapper sizes so that you have the 9" for long seams, borders and binding, and the 6" for blocks, points and tight spaces. Portable mat, compact roller and velvet pouch so that all three travel easily to classes and retreats. Great For Pressing blocks right beside your sewing machine Bulky intersections and thick binding Retreats, classes and small sewing spaces A gift for a quilter who presses every seam At a glance Wool pressing mat: 100% wool, 17" x 13.5" Seam roller: 304 stainless steel head, 1.02" x 1.38" roller, solid wood handle, 4.72" total length Clappers: 2, solid beechwood, 6" and 9", engraved ruler markings Storage: velvet pouch for the clappers
