MULTIDISCIPLINARY APPROACH TO ADRENAL DISORDERS
A MULTIDISCIPLINARY APPROACH TO ADRENAL DISORDERS The adrenal glands are among the most complex vital organs regulating the body’s homeostasis and stress response. Although the literature on adrenal disorders is rapidly expanding, data generated across distinct fields—such as endocrinology, genetics, radiology, pathology, surgery, and oncology—often remain fragmented. The scientific necessity to evaluate this dynamic data within an integrated and multidisciplinary perspective constitutes the primary rationale behind this book. This volume by Türkiye Klinikleri aims to strengthen evidence-based “precise and personalized” diagnostic and therapeutic approaches in our country and to provide a qualified contribution to ongoing academic discussions. Today, while the detection rates of adrenal incidentalomas are rapidly rising due to advanced imaging modalities, complex pathologies like pheochromocytoma, primary aldosteronism, Cushing’s syndrome, and adrenocortical carcinomas necessitate the development of a multi-angled “shared clinical mind” right from the moment of diagnosis. The original scientific contribution of this book lies in its ability to synthesize unique biochemical, genetic, radiological, and pathological characteristics with clinical decision-making and therapeutic strategies within a unified framework. Moving beyond a mere transfer of existing knowledge, this text evaluates current scientific evidence, emerging trends, controversial issues, and the limitations of current data. Furthermore, by highlighting unresolved questions in areas such as molecular/genetic characterization, novel biomarkers, and personalized treatment strategies, it aims to shed light on future research requirements. This book has been authored by leading experts who actively produce science in this field, representing deep-rooted medical faculties and training hospitals in our country, particularly Sağlık Bilimleri University, Bursa Faculty of Medicine, and Yüksek İhtisas Training and Research Hospital. Rather than serving merely as a basic training manual or a standard guideline, the content has been meticulously organized as a reference work for academicians, researchers, and specialists working in related disciplines. Our authors have bridged the spectrum—ranging from functional anatomy and specialized diagnostic methods to minimally invasive surgical approaches, oncological management, and specific clinical scenarios such as pregnancy and childhood adrenal disorders—by seamlessly integrating current global literature with their own extensive clinical experience. As the editor, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all my co-authors who prepared their chapters with great precision and profound academic dedication, and to all my professors who brought this enduring work to life by sacrificing from their intensive outpatient clinics, multidisciplinary councils, and operating room duties. I hope this volume provides valuable insights to all scientists and specialists involved in the management of adrenal disorders, and I wish all readers an inspiring experience.
