Nasturtium Cherry Rose Jewel
Nasturtium Cherry Rose Jewel has striking, upward-facing, semi-double cherry-red to hot-pink flowers. The crumpled petals are mottled in different shades of those sumptuous colours. They look good enough to eat! And you can! Enjoy the rich colour as an edible edging or scattered among your flowers and vegetables. 🌸 Flowering: June to September 📏 Height: to 30cm 🌿 Annual 💧 Drought tolerant once established Sow: under cover in pots or modules in February/March, or in April/May where they are to flower. Harden off pot-sown plants before transplanting. Grow: they like free-draining soil and will thrive in poor soil. Don’t feed, it encourages them to grow more leaves and fewer flowers. Pinching out the growing tip will encourage extra branching. Regular deadheading will promote more flowers. Enjoy: when it gets going this is one of the most sumptuous ground-cover plants you could ever wish for, and it can help suppress weeds too! 🏡 In your garden • Cottage and informal gardens • Urban and courtyard gardens • Gravel gardens • Pots and containers • Borders and edges • Vegetable gardens ✂️ Cut flower • Its mounding habit can produce stems long enough for posy arrangements and table settings 🐝 Pollinator friendly • RHS Plants for Pollinators • Attracting a range of pollinators like bees, butterflies, and also beneficial insects to your garden 🐞 Wildlife friendly • Nasturtium leaves are a favoured food source for the caterpillars of certain butterflies, such as the Large White and Small White, they are rather partial to your brassicas too! 🍴 Edible • Young leaves and flowers have a peppery flavour • This variety looks amazing scattered over a green salad 🎨 Natural dye plant • Nasturtium colours are naturally fugitive. Even with tannin and alum mordants expect the colours to fade from sun exposure and washing • Other textile art methods such as flower pounding can yield much more vibrant results, but the colours remain prone to fading 📜 Traditional uses • Nasturtium has a long history of use in traditional medicine, including skin and scalp care and internal remedies. • That's part of the plant's traditional story rather than something we're suggesting you try. We don't promote plants for medicinal use; always seek appropriate professional advice and reliable health information.
