Old Soul Box XXXV

Vintage Tibetan hexagonal box in brass and copper. The top panel has beautiful hand done repoussé and chasing work in brass featuring the White-Lipped Deer, a native of the high-altitude Tibetian plateau. These deer are deeply tied to Buddhist mythology and are depicted as the gentle, sacred deer sitting on either side of the Dharma Chakra on the roofs of Tibetan monasteries. The stylized, swirling curls on the background are called ruyi clouds or the auspicious scroll clouds and are a classic hallmark Tibetan decorative arts. At the base, completing the scene are the mountains. The rest of the box is made in copper with beaded rims. Should be from the mid 1900s, Tibet. ~ Eina Ahluwalia Approximate Dimensions - 3.9 inches in width, 3 inches in depth, 2 inches in height and approximately 102 grams.
