I built the design around a large shimmering labradorite stone, surrounding it with intricate micromacramé in deep blue and warm bronze tones. Higher in the choker, near the throat chakra, I placed a natural opal slice that adds another flash of shifting color. Blue stone beads complete the design and give the piece the Southwestern character I was looking for. Labradorite belongs to the feldspar mineral family and is famous for its extraordinary optical effect called labradorescence. Microscopic structures within the stone interact with light, producing flashes that can appear blue, green, gold, violet, or other colors as I move the pendant. Opal creates its play of color differently. Precious opal contains microscopic silica spheres that diffract light, separating it into spectral colors. I love bringing these two stones together because each seems to capture and transform light in its own completely different way. In crystal traditions, I often see labradorite associated with intuition, transformation, and self-discovery, while opal is connected with creativity, emotion, and inspiration. I echoed that mystical quality through the detailed knotwork, combining geometric patterns with a palette that reminds me of turquoise jewelry, bronze earth, endless desert skies, and the colors of dusk. I created this opal necklace as a true boho luxe statement piece. The adjustable tie allows me to customize the fit, while the wide choker and oversized pendant ensure that it remains anything but subtle. To me, Desert Moon Rising feels like the moment the last warmth of the sun disappears behind the horizon and the desert begins to glow beneath moonlight: mysterious, radiant, wild, and elegant.
