The TaylorMade MG5 is the fifth generation of the Milled Grind wedge series — a tour-refined design built for players who want maximum spin, direct feel, and predictable stopping power around the green. Every MG5 is fully forged from soft carbon steel with a raw, non-plated hitting surface that preserves maximum friction between grooves and ball cover. Spin Tread Technology The face carries Spin Tread — laser-etched micro-ridges between the CNC-milled grooves that bite into the ball. TaylorMade reports 13% more spin than the MG4 in wet conditions. The ridges redirect moisture away at impact, which is where traditional faces slip. Combined with full-face scoring lines on the higher lofts, MG5 delivers consistent spin across the entire face, including toe strikes on flop and lob shots. Raw Face & Forged Feel The raw face is left unplated, so the steel develops a natural rust patina after a few rounds. This is intentional: unplated carbon steel transfers energy more softly at impact and delivers the dense, forged sensation that chrome tends to mask. Players coming from plated wedges usually notice the difference on the first shot. Six Grinds — One for Every Swing and Course MG5 is available in six distinct sole grinds. Three of them (SB, SC, SX) fall into the mid-bounce category that suits the majority of golfers; the LB, HB, and TW cover more specific swing types and conditions. MG5 SB Grind — Standard Bounce The all-purpose grind in the lineup. Medium bounce with moderate heel relief. SB works on the widest range of turf conditions and suits most swing styles. If you don’t have a clear reason to go to a more specialised grind, this is where we start. MG5 SC Grind — Versatility Ideal for players with shallow-to-moderate angles of attack who want greenside versatility — especially off tight, firm lies. Balanced sole relief that sits cleanly at address and lets you manipulate the face without adding effective bounce. MG5 SX Grind — Widest Sole A new grind in the MG5 lineup, with the widest sole of the range. A pronounced leading-edge bevel keeps the wedge from digging, and the rearward bounce location is designed for soft or grainy conditions (Bermuda, kikuyu). MG5 LB Grind — Low Bounce Aggressive heel, toe, and trailing-edge relief on a low-bounce sole. For shallow swingers and firm, tight fairways. Excels when you lay the face open for flops and splashes where a higher-bounce wedge would catch. MG5 HB Grind — High Bounce Wide sole with high bounce, heel relief, and additional bounce at the toe. Built for steep angles of attack and soft, plush conditions. Prevents digging and glides through bunker sand without resistance. MG5 TW Grind — Tiger Woods Shaped from Tiger Woods’ current wedge preferences. In the 60° loft it features increased camber, a new leading-edge blend in the sole for added effective bounce, and additional heel relief. The go-to grind for players who manipulate the face on every shot. Lofts & Finishes Lofts run from 46° to 60° in 2° increments, with each loft paired to grind options that TaylorMade has validated. Two finishes are offered: a satin Chrome that reduces glare at address, and a Charcoal finish for players who prefer a darker, matte look — each wears in over time and settles nicely alongside the raw face.
