QUANTITIES ARE LIMITED Proud to present volume 7 of The Atlantic Bridge to Germany, with indexes and a historical survey of Nordrhein-Westfalen. This area has been overrun by many powers, being on the western border of Germany, and on the routes of many trans-European campaigns and migrations. The area has thus been under foreign influence more than interior parts of Germany have been. This volume is the most complete index available for about 3000 repositories of genealogical records in Nordrhein-Westfalen. These consist mainly of genealogical research done for events before civil registration, along with records of 50 state and city archives among nearly 60 counties of Nordrhein-Westfalen. The excellent maps are cross-referenced from the Gemeinde Index, which takes up the bulk of this volume. The Gemeinde index includes the map reference for each parish, its county, date of oldest available records, and time periods for which records are present at Salt Lake City in the Genealogical Department Library, the world's largest such library. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints maintains that collection, which includes 80% of the parish records of Nordrhein-Westfalen. Many emigrants from Nordrhein-Westfalen to other continents, especially since 1845, left through Hamburg, Germany, which is the only port for which extensive departure records are still available. About a third of the emigrants from central and eastern Europe left through Hamburg. Charles M. Hall 1989, 8.5" x 11", paper, index, maps, 63 pp. 111-H1845
