A Constant Charade (Deluxe)
Digital Deluxe Album available for pre-order now! Releasing on June 12th Ahead of summer tour dates, Elujay releases A Constant Charade Deluxe, an expanded digital edition of his 2026 LP, adding six new tracks to the ambitious set that saw praise from Clash (“supremely crafted”) and The New Yorker (“breezy and sweet”). His debut on art-forward indie label drink sum wtr, A Constant Charade found the Oakland artist and producer removing the mask from his multifaceted craft after a decade of distinct work in contemporary pop, including JEMS!, his breakout collab project with J. Robb. Elujay is known for dynamic, genre-crossing music — R&B stirred up with rhythms drawn from yacht rock, sophisti-pop, dancehall, Al Jeel, Lovers Rock, and the tones of his Trinidadian roots — and the new songs underscore the sonic and spiritual freedom he’s embraced as of late. For the initial album, Elujay deployed a narrative device — “charade,” a catch-all for code-switching, social cues, and behavioral constructs — to unlock his most vulnerable songwriting to date. The new Deluxe material pulls that thematic thread further, with Elujay’s open-hearted, soul-searching croon at the helm, alongside far-reaching production. Late-night ruminations run wild on “2am”, a highlight that’s all hooks and riffs capped by an outro of rhythmic, warbling guitar lines. He calls it “a personal take on blending my Caribbean and alternative influences into a single song.” The tapestry expands elsewhere; he channels UK street soul and Sade vibes for “Bomo”, and leans into Bachata for the romantic “Rockas”, which he made after visiting his father in the Dominican Republic. A tender, reflective tone runs throughout. “Wushua” is a tribute to D'Angelo, written the day the neo-soul legend died. “I wanted to resurrect his spirit through the music.” On the dreamy, dubby “Know It”, Elu searches for validation; above snapping percussion and looped strums, he details feelings of not being enough. Closing the Deluxe addendum is “Mission”, a smooth, steel-drummed statement of intent to keep working on himself. “It’s dedicated to my personal journey,” says Elu. “Do you ever think that I could be the one?” he sings with sincerity, before landing on a promise, “I’ll make it my mission.”
