Region: Ngozi Province, Burundi Variety: Bourbon Altitude: 1750 masl Process: Fully Washed "This lot reminds me of the very first washed coffee from Burundi that I ever tried, a high regard because of how long that coffee has lingered in my mind after experiencing it. Washed African coffees are by far one of my favorite but Burundi specifically has such distinct and rich sweetness that, along with its clarity, make Burundi coffees have a lasting impact on me." - Jeff / Director of Sales & Training About this lot: This sweet and clean washed lot comes from the Ngozi Province, a region right in the center of Burundi. Turihamwe is a coffee produced and processed by a group of women entrepreneurs. They named this collective project "Turihamwe" which means "together" in Kirundi. Together, they have been producing outstanding coffee for about 5 years and found an ally in JNP Coffee, who work diligently to connect them with thoughtful coffee roasters across the world. When JNP included a pre-ship sample of the Turihamwe lot in this year's harvest lineup for us to taste we were immediately captivated by its very sweet and clean profile. We were tasting cooked fruits, floral complexity, and vanilla. There hasn't been a brew method that this lot hasn't performed well in so don't miss out! Sourcing Info: This is our Sophmore harvest season with JNP Coffee in Burundi. JNP is owned by Jeanine Niyonzima-Aroian. Jeanine grew up in Bujumbura, Burundi's largest city, where she recalled hearing her mother tell stories about how her family cultivated coffee in the Ngozi Province to pay their way through school. She had a very successful academic and business career, earning an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, outside of Chicago. Her successes and her business endeavors internationally would ultimately lead her back home to Burundi where she now advocates for coffee producers and their communities. From JNP Coffee: " Our business model is driven by quality coffee based on strong producer partnerships and shared knowledge in pursuit of several United Nations sustainable development goals. JNP Coffee encourages transformational change for local coffee farmers by promoting gender equality, supporting financial literacy education and developing leadership skills. These efforts to empower the farmers and their families build resilience and expand their coffee production capacity. "
