Geru Rug

Named for the rust-red ochre clay brushed across mud walls in the villages of Rajasthan and Haryana — that soft, sun-warmed rose-brown left behind when geru meets a courtyard wall before a festival. Geru carries the same chalky warmth: a ground the colour of an afternoon wall in late summer, slow-faded and quietly lit from within. Ogee curves rise across the field in pale ivory, interlocking into a steady architectural rhythm, while charcoal borders frame the design with small ivory medallions punched at intervals — the cool counterweight to the warmth of the ground. Ivory tassels at either end finish the piece with the casual ease of something handed down through a household rather than newly arrived. Handwoven on a traditional handloom in pure cotton, then hand screen-printed in small batches. The weave receives the ink unevenly by design — denser in some passages, faded in others — giving the surface the same lived-in patina that geru-washed walls take on as the seasons turn. At home beside a low bed, under a writing desk, anchoring a sun-warmed corner, or layered into an entryway where light falls through the morning.
