Striped Birka Cup
This vessel is based on a find from Birka, a Viking Age trading town in 10th century Sweden. Know as Vipperrow ware, the shape and decoration was common for a few centuries across Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany and Southern Scandinavia. While the original was unglazed, low-fired coarse ceramic ware, ours is made of dark stoneware, fired to 2200 Fahrenheit and glazed inside – making it perfect for your wine or morning coffee. Statens Historiska Museum, Stockholm Catalog Number 34000 Birka grave number Bj 1143
