Beginner level class This is an ONLINE natural botanical perfumery class that will take place Saturday October 17th, 2026 from 11:00 am - 6:00 pm EST. Interested students must begin their studies by enrolling in the Introductory class as it is a prerequisite for all other courses. Should you wish to continue your studies with Charna, you can then enroll for other natural perfumery courses offered. WHO SHOULD ATTEND? Anyone Interested in learning how to create a well balanced natural perfume from an award winning perfumer. Whether you want to learn how to make natural perfumes for yourself or have dreamed of launching your own line of fragrances, this class will start you on your way to understanding and creating natural fragrances. WHAT WILL I ACHIEVE? A basic working knowledge of the art of natural perfumery. Each student will create five perfumes during class under the guidance of the instructor. WHAT MATERIALS ARE INCLUDED IN THE CLASS FEE? Registered students will receive a natural perfumery materials kit including essences and labware shipped prior to the class date. The Natural Perfumery Kit for this class is valued at over $300 and includes exceptional quality essences hand chosen by Charna and used in her own line of award winning fragrances. The kit includes a surplus of perfumery materials allowing the student extra materials to continue their studies after class and practice formulating natural fragrances and increasing their skill with techniques learned in class. Natural perfumery is an art with roots tracing back thousands of years, and natural perfumes are now the fastest growing market segment of the perfume industry. Topics addressed in this class will include the following: The vernacular of scent The components of natural perfumes: essential oils, absolutes, floral waxes, carbon dioxide distillations, natural isolates, concretes, and alcohol. Top, middle and base note classification Weighing/measuring Sourcing materials The importance of notekeeping (formularies, impressions, revisiting) Labeling and ageing Proper storage of perfumes and perfumery materials Photosensitizing essences and usage learning how to think creatively about perfume formulation creating accurate dilutions by weight or volume filtering methods tips on creating perfumes with sillage troubleshooting formulations differences between alcohol and oil as fragrance carriers Students will create 5 different fragrance mods in class. Upon completion of this Introductory course, students may choose to submit a perfume formula they've created using the materials kit and receive detailed feedback from the perfumer. Feedback will be emailed to the student after submission. This process allows for detailed personal guidance and instruction for student work. WHO IS TEACHING ME? Your instructor, the fabulous Charna Ethier, is the nose and founder of Providence Perfume Co., an award winning natural perfumery specializing in luxurious botanical fragrances. Charna has over 15 years of industry experience. This class will run online via Zoom. Students will need internet access and access to a free Zoom account prior to date of class. All materials used in this class are included in the class price with the exception of perfumers alcohol. Students are responsible for procuring three ounces of ethanol (perfumers alcohol) in order to participate in the class perfume formulation exercises.
