Yak Wool Yarn - Hunter Green - Lace

Yak fiber is one of Mongolia’s most remarkable natural materials, combining exceptional softness with strength and durability. Raised at high elevations across the Mongolian steppe, yaks grow an incredibly warm undercoat to withstand the region’s long, bitter winters. Our yak fiber is sourced through networks of herder cooperatives across Mongolia. By working directly with herding communities and returning to the same families each season, we are able to maintain consistent quality while supporting traditional pastoral livelihoods. Yak coats contain multiple layers of fiber. For our yarn, only the fine, downy undercoat is used. After the spring brushing season, the coarse guard hairs are carefully separated from this soft down before the fiber is spun into yarn suitable for knitting and crochet. Because yak fiber develops in such harsh climates, it is both soft and unusually durable.
