Introduction to Oils with Taylor Singh
About the course: This two-day weekend workshop is for beginners to intermediate students interested in pre-mixed oils and odourless solvents to create a small painting. The first day will involve material introduction and colour matching. The second workshop day will involve laying down the foundations of an oil painting, and painting using the Alla Prima Fast ('at first attempt') painting technique of applying wet paint onto wet (wet-on-wet) which allows our paint to be completed in one session and gives it a spontaneous and fresh look. capturing the essence of our subject with quick, energetic, bold brush-strokes. Dates: 24 – 25 October 2026; Time: Saturday – Sunday, 9.30am – 4.00pm Venue: NatureArt Lab, M16 Artspace, 21 Blaxland Crescent, Griffith Parking: Free Parking available at the front and sides of the building. Amenities: There is a cafe and supermarket within a short walk from the Studio as well as free onsite car parking. Materials: A materials list will be provided upon enrolment. About the tutor: Dr Taylor Singh is an artist who graduated from the ANU School of Art and Design. She is also a scientist, having just completed a PhD at the Eccles Institute of Neuroscience. Taylor has been painting since she was a child, and enjoys drawing upon inspiration from the natural world. Taylor has led visual art workshops for the National Indigenous Summer School at ANU, and loves combining art and science in her painting practice.
