Kilchoman 20th Anniversary Cask Series 14 Year Old Ex-Sherry Butts

55% ABV To celebrate their 20th Anniversary, Kilchoman released 4 distinct Single Malts, each a blend of 5 casks. This release is a 14 year old vatting of 100% Islay aged in ex-Oloroso Sherry butts, distilled in 2011 from Kilchoman grown barley. About Kilchoman Kilchoman Distillery was founded by Englishman Anthony Wills in 2005 at the Rockside Farm on the renowned whisky-making island of Islay, Scotland. "Islay's Farm Distillery" produces the only single farm, single malt whisky on the island. They take on the arduous task of floor malting much of their own barley and use peat from bogs near the farm for drying the barley. Their custom designed stills are unusually small which produces a much higher copper contact with the spirit. Their first releases were younger, non-age stated whiskies which was unusual for the time but is now quite common with other producers. Their spirits are characterized by a citrus note and very well integrated peat smoke. At our bar next door, we have carried every single release that was made available to us since the day that we opened in 2011. We were honored to be named a "Comraich" by the distillery. It means :"sanctuary" in Gaelic and the title is bestowed upon establishments that are bastions of Kilchoman whisky enjoyment. They are one of our favorite distilleries on earth and we carry more individual products made there than from any other single producer.
