April ‘26 YOTM: What’s That Smell?
Do you smell that smelly smell that smells… smelly? It’s that time of year where we deal with the consequences of past choices of city planners and suffer the smell of Bradford pears. Also known as the Callery Pear, these trees are weak-wooded, highly invasive, and foul smelling - and the street the shop is on is littered with them! “If they sound like the worst ex boyfriend, then why are there so many of them??” Because like an unfortunate younger version of many of us, they can tolerate incredibly poor conditions like droughts and pollution. Additionally, their fruit is easily spread by birds, meaning they spread beyond where they’re planted, often crowding out native plant species. Soil and conservation districts across the country have programs that can provide help replacing your Bradford pear with a native plant! We’re big fans of the Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation District and their efforts here locally. Our April 2026 colorway is called WHATS THAT SMELL, and is reminiscent of the white/yellow/green blossoms of the fishy smelling menace BASES: Chester Sock: 100g, 437 yards, blend of 75% superwash merino/25% nylon Minnie DK: 100g, 246 yards, 100% superwash merino wool
