Cornus officinalis - Japanese Cornelian Cherry

A deciduous shrub or small tree native to East Asia and is noted for its early yellow flowers, which appear in late winter or early spring on bare stems. It will produce edible red fruits in early summer and in autumn has a very fine colour. A very similar species to the European Cornus mas and it is just as hardy and quite rare in Australia.
