Humble B-Flat – Indigo Blues [Zinnia Records] ZINNIA001
A1: Egyptian Queen A2: Overcome B1: Turquoise Dreams B2: Daoud C1: Velvet Green C2: Navy Darkness D1: Centro Walk & Skank D2: Sweet Sweetness - South London's Humble B Flat follows a run of quietly impressive releases by launching his new Zinnia Records imprint with a double-pack of luxuriant deep house and jazz-flecked soul. There is a cosy, blue-tinted feel to opener 'Egyptian Queen' with smoky chords and loose-limbed drums working their way through a warm groove. 'Overcome' keeps things rich and low-slung while 'Turquoise Dreams' slips into hazier lounge territory with mellow saxophone lines and brushed percussion giving it a pretty glow. 'Daoud' has a more rolling swing to it and 'Velvet Green' sinks deeper into neo-spiritual jazz moods with clean production and supreme musicality throughout. 'Navy Darkness' is more restrained and reflective before 'Centro Walk and Skank' locks into dusty deep house rhythm and 'Sweet Sweetness' shuts things down with effortless warmth.
