Intro to Carving (June 26th, 6:00 PM - 9:30 PM) with Rob Lazuk

Using traditional hand tools, learn the basics of carving wood in this introductory carving course. The course will cover wood theory all the way through to a finished carved spoon. Participants will learn about wood, tool usage, and will begin their first attempts at carving. With a focus on wood technology, you will learn the skills involved in tool selection, reading the grain, carving out the bowl, shaping the handle, and finishing your piece. All materials and tools are supplied in this course, and participants can choose from a selection of local hardwoods for their spoons. While most participants will finish with a beautiful spoon, it's important to note that as this is an introductory course and people learn at different paces, results may vary.
