Silk Rose
This blend began with sampling a handful of beautiful rose oils—then, quite predictably, falling for all of them. I eventually settled on a composition built from Nangarhar, Tunisian, SQ Bulgarian, and SQ Hindi roses. It’s one of those cases where the whole becomes more than the sum of its parts. At the heart of the composition is the Nangarhar rose. You need to smell it to notice its quiet resemblance to Taifi—refined, luminous, and balanced. What makes it even more remarkable is how rarely it’s available; Nangarhar rose is typically pre-booked by major perfume houses. By Allah’s grace, this small batch found its way to me. It’s one of those moments where every practical explanation falls away, and you’re left recognizing that everything was, is, and will only be by Allah’s grace. I did consider keeping it as a rose soliflore. A rose-focused blend demands care—at least to me. The moment you introduce other notes, you risk losing what you’re holding. So, of course… I went for it. While revisiting my library of materials, and checking with my growing network of supplier, I came across batch of Borneo oud. It had a subtle corn-silk nuance, an airy greenness, a gentle sweetness, and a faintly fruity lift. It felt less like an addition and more like a dialogue, as though the oud itself was asking for that particular rose profile as company—or perhaps the other way around. The Borneo oud I used, in turn, inspired the introduction of a silky, smooth artisanal wild Silani-Burmese co-distilled oud, previously offered as Arakan Silk. I wanted to give texture to this rose blend—I guess that is what I do to roses, as with Qinan Rose. I added a touch of orange blossom to lend a quiet, luminous sheen to the composition, but it really came together after adding a whisper, maybe a gentle voice, of Omani Frankincense. To me, Silk Rose is the scent of lush, full bodied roses. If you want to make this rose especially yours, here are a few options: 2010 Merauke: A classic earthy green, made dark and resonant by time. This has a similar green slightly sweet balsamic profile. 2005 Burmese: Adds a dark, leathery chord for those seeking a deeper, more animalic character. SQ Bulgarian Rose: Vintage royal, rosey rose. SQ Malay Cola: A sparkling, fizzy Malaysian oud.
