All profits from the Bernard Morgan - A Century of Memories Book will go towards the Royal British Legion's work in supporting the Armed Forces community. A Century of Memories is the remarkable life story of Bernard Morgan, a 102-year-old D-Day veteran, from his childhood in Manchester and Crewe to his service as an RAF code and cypher operator during the Second World War. Landing at Gold Beach on D-Day in 1944, Bernard witnessed history at close hand and played his part in the Allied communications effort that helped bring the war to an end. But Bernard’s story did not end with the war. His long life has been one of service, volunteering, friendship and remembrance. Aswell as the many military medals already earned, Bernard was made an MBE in the New Year Honours in recognition of his services to volunteering and history. Written by two local historians, this book will appeal to many, and Bernard particular stated that he hopes the younger generation “will read it and understand how the soldiers, sailors, airmen, airwomen and civilians gave their lives for the freedom we have today,". Told with warmth and honesty, this is a moving tribute to a generation who sacrificed so much — and a powerful reminder of why their stories must never be forgotten. Bernard is an ambassador for the Royal British Legion and wanted all profits from the book to go to them.
