When people ask what MCM craftsmanship looks like, this is the piece we point to. A truly spectacular Brazilian rosewood executive desk by Arne Vodder for H.P. Hansen Møbelindustri of Randers, Denmark, dating to the 1950s— a rare and important piece of Danish Modern design, now professionally refinished and ready for its next chapter. This stunning workspace features a winged top surface and two drawer pedestals flanking a central seating space with shelf. On the right is a large filing cabinet that accommodates legal or letter-size files, depending on orientation. Three stationary drawers sit on the left. All drawers are dovetailed and solid wood with a thick rosewood veneer. At the centre, an open shelf appears to float thanks to its concealed fittings. The star of the show is the Brazilian rosewood itself, prized for its extraordinary grain pattern and deep, rich colour — a wood no longer legally permitted to be harvested, making pieces like this increasingly rare to find. The rosewood flows continuously from the top to the solid rosewood wings on the sides, around to the drawer fronts, and across the fully finished back — this desk is finished on both sides, meaning it can float in a room rather than sit against a wall. As was common for the period, the desk's structure is left exposed — and since the structure is built entirely from solid Brazilian rosewood, the structure is every bit as beautiful as the rest of the piece.
