Woman Lighting Shabbat Candles

Hands covering her eyes, a woman draped in a pale blue veil pauses in prayer before two lit brass candlesticks. Behind her, a walled city of domes and ramparts breaks into green, blue and orange facets. Alex Levin’s touch is unmistakable: a luminous painting built from geometric shapes, where the candlelight seems to spread across the whole canvas.
