Fine Pashmina Ring (Palladar) Shawl — Dark Charcoal with Jewel-Tone Paisley Pallas
A fine Kashmiri pashmina ring shawl (Palladar) in dark charcoal grey, its field woven with a lattice of black paisley medallions on a ground of tiny flowers, and finished at both ends with a palla of large paisleys in teal, crimson, saffron and sage. The name comes from the test. A Palladar is a shawl fine enough to be drawn whole through a finger ring — the traditional proof of fine Kashmiri pashmina. Yarn this fine breaks if the loom is pushed, so the weaving is slow and careful, and there is no shortcut to a cloth that passes. The ring is simply the proof. The pallas Each end carries a row of five tall paisleys on an olive-brown ground of flowering sprigs, each paisley outlined in a different colour — turquoise, crimson, saffron, lilac — and framed by a sage border of small paisleys. The colour is all woven in, not printed or stitched, so the pattern reads on both sides. The two ends are coloured differently: one in the full jewel palette, the other bordered in deep red and orange, so you can choose which end to bring forward. Over the shoulders the field stays dark and quiet — black paisley medallions in a neat lattice on the charcoal ground, visible up close — so all the colour falls to the front when the shawl is draped. The colour Dark charcoal reads almost black indoors and shows its grey in daylight, which keeps the black medallions visible where a true black ground would swallow them. Against it, the teal and crimson in the pallas look rich without being loud. It is one of the most dressed-up Palladars in the range and easy to wear to a wedding or an evening.
