le Village des Bories à Gordes
7.5" x 8", 24 pages Paper FRANCE A book about the traditional dry stone structures of the middle-mediterranian called a "Borie". In the 70s a village near to the most famous of Provence villages (not at the time), Gordes, was reconstructed from ruin by a Mr. Pierre Viala. Here, in the book, he speaks about the construction and the reconstruction of the village. As you often see such ruins in nature I had assumed these were simply individual shepard's huts. I was wrong. As you can see here from the text, images and map...entire villages, albeit small, were constructed for people, animals, ovens, cisterns, wine storage, etc. I am particularly fascinated by the kitchen and find the use of stone incredibly inspiring. If you find yourself interested and in the region, happy to hike with you to a hidden one up the mountain.
