Pair of Victorian Portraits by Ann Beaumont

A superb quality pair of mid-19th-century English oil on canvas portraits of a lady and gentleman, both signed and dated 1845 by the accomplished English portrait artist Ann Beaumont (1798–1866). Wonderfully painted with excellent attention to facial detail, expression and complexion. The lady is depicted wearing an elegant black off-the-shoulder dress with delicate lace trimming and a fur stole, while the gentleman is dressed in a formal black coat and white cravat. Ann Beaumont was a recognised portrait painter of her time, exhibiting at the Royal Academy in London between 1820 and 1832. Both portraits have been relined and presented in matching gilt frames, believed to be later replacements, which complement the paintings beautifully. A particularly attractive and decorative pair of Victorian portraits, full of character and history.
