A vintage Swedish brass vase designed and handcrafted by the Swedish artist and silversmith Claës E. Giertta (1926–2007). The vase features an intricately worked relief decoration depicting a stylized figure, a castle and a ship, extending around the body. Its cylindrical form with a gently flared rim provides a restrained contrast to the richly detailed decoration, reflecting Giertta’s distinctive approach to decorative metalwork. Claës E. Giertta (1926–2007) was a Swedish baron, silversmith, sculptor and designer educated at Konstfack in Stockholm. Throughout his career he received commissions for sculpture, ecclesiastical works and interior design, while also creating decorative objects in brass and other metals. His work is represented in the collections of Sweden’s Nationalmuseum and National Museums Scotland.
